To be *AND* To let be - That is the answer

The world seems to be spiraling down,

With humans thriving and humans bound.

The world seems to be spiraling down,

With tempers rising and protests on.

The world seems to be spiraling down,

With armies ready and sides drawn.

The world seems to be spiraling down

And yet we can’t stop our fight for the crown.

What is this crown, this race for supremacy,

Which makes us discriminate and do it so religiously?

Why this neurotic hunger, to be better than the rest?

When we all have our own destiny and our own treasure chests.

Why this compulsiveness to be extremely dismissive?

To be insensitive and to be so selfish.

What have we garnered, what have we gained?

By being so insecure and yet being so vain.

If the ways we’ve lived, the racist and vile,

Have only caused protests, controversies and rile,

Why is it taking the smartest of species,

So long to find a cure to this crippling disease?

Many will say we are a part of the problem,

The mind set we cultivate, the attitude we harbor.

The fascist of regimes, we so dearly defend,

The choices we make, the stigma we append.

It is not in our genes, nobody is born with it,

It is our way of living and the society that conforms it.

So what can we do, the smartest of species,

Just sit and ponder as it slowly increases?

Will it die with time ‘cause my generation has an open mind?

Or will it take its toll in forms to which we are yet blind?

To me the cure lies, in the problem itself.

To stop thinking too much, to not pride one’s own self.

To be more inclusive, to be more just and kind,

To cast away prejudice, not just have an open mind.

To be or not to be, that is not even the question,

To be and to let be, that is the required discretion!

We don’t have to change our way of living,

We just have to be more understanding.

And yet if you don’t understand a different point of view,

To be and to let be is only what is needed of you.
